LOS ANGELES, CA – The Californians for Human Immigrant Rights Leadership Action Fund (CHIRLA) today endorsed Kevin de León in his campaign for U.S. Senate. Throughout the Southland, the CHIRLA Action Fund is known for organizing leaders with firsthand knowledge of the impact of our broken immigration system.
“Our nation was built on immigrants and their labor. We are proud to endorse a candidate who will represent the needs of all of our communities regardless of immigration status,” said CHIRLA Action Fund Board of Directors Chair Angelica Salas. “Our immigrant community welcomes the opportunity to have someone in our U.S. Senate who is not afraid to stand up to the President and his administration. With Senator de León’s help, we can win immigration reform.”
“CHIRLA Action Fund is among the fiercest defenders of our immigrant communities in California,” said Senator de León. “Their work inspires so many to get involved and focused on the issue of reforming a broken immigration system that our representatives in Washington have failed to address. Everyone deserves a seat at the table, which is why I am excited have the CHIRLA Action Fund’s support as we continue the fight for humane immigration reforms in our nation’s capital.”
A first-generation American, Senator de León spent over a decade in the California Capitol working to improve the human condition for hard-working immigrant families. From his time as an Assemblymember, to his tenure helming the California Senate, Kevin de León authored and passed such laws as SB-75, which provides undocumented children with Medi-Cal healthcare, and the California Values Act - the first Sanctuary State law in the nation. Senator de León first got involved in politics when he organized the largest civil rights protest in California history against Prop 187.
