LOS ANGELES, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Kevin de León today released the following statement on the heels of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the United States Supreme Court:

“Today is a difficult day. Senate leadership rammed the most partisan Supreme Court nominee we’ve ever seen straight into a seat on our nation’s highest and most powerful bench. With each passing day, our constitutional rights will be at risk.

“But let me be clear: this has always been the case. It has never been a given that we will continue to enjoy the same voting rights, civil rights, LGBTQIA rights, and basic human rights that we have today.

“Today also marks the beginning of a new chapter in our nation's history. A chapter where we no longer accept complacency, and we work to erase a status quo that puts its own power over the interests of the people it represents. Today we saw the proof unfold before our eyes - that the old ways of doing things don’t work; and comity for comity’s sake is far too risky when a woman’s right to choose is on the line.

“That’s why we, the people of California – and Americans across the nation – have to get out and vote, and organize our communities to vote with us. No election is too small, no vote is inconsequential. We must build power on our own, because we can’t rely on our representatives in Washington to do it for us."
