LOS ANGELES – After an hour-long Q-and-A forum in Burlingame last month, the National Union of Healthcare Workers’ local leaders from across the country voted to endorse Kevin de León for U.S. Senate. Sen. de León received 91% of the vote. Incumbent Senator Dianne Feinstein declined invitations to attend the forum.

“Our members were excited to get to really know Kevin and discuss the issues that are critical to them and all Californians,” NUHW president Sal Rosselli said. “After hearing Kevin address our members, it’s no surprise to me that he won a resounding majority of the vote. We are excited to support him in this campaign.

As President pro Tempore of the California Senate, Kevin de León passed Medicare For All legislation past stiff opposition Sacramento’s higher house. If elected to the U.S. Senate, Sen. de León will co-sponsor Senator Bernie Sanders’ Medicare For All Act on his first day in the Capitol.

“I am grateful to have the endorsement of the National Union of Healthcare Workers’ democratically elected healthcare leaders, who work tirelessly to keep Californians safe and sound,” Sen. de León said. “Healthcare is a human right, not an exclusive privilege for those who can afford it. With NUHW’s support, we’ll take the fight for Medicare For All to Washington and bring federal funding for mental health care back to California. We won’t take no for an answer.”
