LOS ANGELES, CA – Maria Elena Durazo, former Los Angeles labor leader and currently running to represent California’s 24th Senate District, today endorsed Kevin de León in the U.S. Senate race.

“Running to succeed Kevin de León in the state Senate is a challenge, not because of my opponent, but because Kevin’s record is unmatched in the Legislature today,” Durazo said.

“He fights tirelessly for immigrants, for affordable healthcare, for better schools, for college opportunity, for retirement security, for our environment – on issue after issue Kevin has set a standard of achievement that I will forever work to meet.

“With Kevin de León in the United States Senate, California’s resistance to the regressive policies of the Trump Administration will finally have a strong voice in Washington, D.C. – the one we need and deserve.”

In response to Maria Elena Durazo’s endorsement, de León issued the following statement:

“Maria Elena Durazo is a true warrior for working families in Los Angeles and throughout our state.  She never backs down from a challenge, and always works to make sure every Californian has the opportunity to succeed. Our state Senate needs real leaders like Maria Elena, who won’t equivocate when it comes to defending California values.”
