Lake Tahoe, CA – California College Democrats endorsed Kevin de León for United States Senate in 2018 at the California Young Democrats’ annual retreat in Lake Tahoe this past weekend.
“California College Democrats endorse Kevin de León for U.S. Senate because of his strong progressive track record, especially on behalf of young Californians,” said Gustavo Barragan, president of California College Democrats. “De León has been a leader in promoting access to higher education, including championing legislation that increased resident enrollment over 20,000at UC/CSU schools and provided more financial aid to community college students to pay for housing, transportation, and books. He has fought for immigrant rights, and has been a strong champion for gender equity. He also authored legislation making California the first state in the nation to implement a universal affirmative consent standard to evaluate complaints of sexual violence on college campuses. We need the kind of change Kevin de León can bring to the U.S. Senate.”
“I am proud to have the endorsement of the next generation of California’s Democratic leaders,” de León said. “I am inspired by their vision for a stronger, more progressive California, and I commit to standing up for California’s young people in Washington DC.”
California College Democrats is the official student arm of the Democratic Party in California with more than 40 chapters at campuses across California. California College Democrats are affiliated with the California Young Democrats, the California Democratic Party and the College Democrats of America, the official student wing of the Democratic National Committee.
California State Senator Kevin de León was elected by his colleagues to lead the Senate in 2014, making him the first Latino to hold that position in over a century. De León served four years in the California State Assembly before his election to the State Senate in 2010.
