Leading California's Resistance: How Kevin will Bring CA Values to DC
BUILDING OUR CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE
Kevin’s work in the California Senate has proven to the world that clean energy isn’t just a pipe dream; it is the pillar of a strong economy. Today, our state is combating climate change with policies that grow our economy, create new jobs, and use less fossil fuel than ever before. Kevin set California on the path to 50% renewable energy by 2030, and we’re way ahead of schedule. Now, he wants to take California’s climate leadership to Washington, D.C. and fight for a 100% clean energy future.
CHAMPIONING THE $15 MINIMUM WAGE
Working families should not be forced to live in poverty. Partnering with working families, Kevin fought for a living wage in California. In 2016, Kevin pushed the state legislature to approve a plan to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Now millions of Californians are earning higher wages and providing more financial security for their families. Kevin also supports a living wage index, which would tie the federal minimum wage to cost of living expenses and enable working families across the country to cover their basic needs. As a tireless advocate for the working class, Kevin will continue to fight for fair wages, equal treatment, and economic justice from Washington, D.C.
Moving Comprehensive Immigration Reform
With a firm understanding of the contributions of the undocumented community to California’s culture and economy, Kevin has led the fight against President Trump’s direct attacks on our immigrant communities. He believes it’s time for Washington, D.C. to act on immigration reforms that provide a path to citizenship, reduce immigration court backlogs, and clear out overcrowded detention centers. Kevin has been a strong advocate for immigrant families ever since he got his start as a community organizer because he knows California’s diversity is its greatest strength.
Not only is healthcare a basic human right, it’s a matter of human dignity. As leader of the California Senate, Kevin moved single-payer legislation to ensure all Californians have access to healthcare. Too many Americans are left behind by a system that doesn’t cover everyone. When Americans aren’t covered, our chronic homelessness crisis gets worse, student debt skyrockets, and our middle class gets weaker. That’s why Kevin is committed to working with Senator Bernie Sanders to pass Medicare-for-All.
